Co je a jak působí karnitin?

Karnitin je kvartérní amin 3-hydroxy 4 trimetylaminobutyrát, obsažený v mase (caro = maso), od toho jeho název. Jeho vznik v těle je jednak endogenní, skládá se v těle ze dvou aminokyselin, metioninu a lysinu v celkovém množství asi 25 %, nebo musí být dodán přímo v masité potravě přibližně ve zbylém množství 75 %. Při určitých stavech jako je stres, operace, ischemická choroba srdeční a vůbec ischemické svalové stavy dochází k jeho nedostatku.
