Complex approach to patients at high cardiovascular risk from the perspective of an internist

The paper presents the diagnostic options in identifying patients at high cardiovascular risk. It deals with the significance of both classic and new risk factors. The author discusses the options of nonpharmacological as well as pharmacological treatment aimed at reducing the established high risk. Current principles of intervention with hypolipidemic drugs, antihypertensives, and antiplatelet drugs are dealt with in detail.
